Traveling for Lipedema Surgery at Lipedema MD
Many lipedema patients travel from outside the area—and often from across the country—to receive specialized care at the Lipedema MD Center. Because surgical treatment for lipedema is not widely available, travel is often a necessary part of accessing experienced, dedicated care. Our board-certified team is committed to making this process as smooth, safe, and stress-free as possible.
From travel planning to recovery support, we intentionally help simplify the logistics so lipedema patients can focus on healing. To make sure you’re fully prepared, we encourage all patients traveling for surgery to review our Final Surgical Prep Checklist before their trip.

Where to Stay: Comfort, Accessibility, and Recovery Support
Location
For lipedema patients traveling for surgery, we strongly recommend staying in close proximity to our office rather than near the hospital. This is because we have identified certified lymphatic drainage massage specialists located near the Lipedema MD Center who are available after surgery. Staying nearby makes post-operative lymphatic care easier to coordinate during the early recovery period.
Room Size and Accessibility
We recommend suite-style accommodations rather than standard hotel rooms. Lipedema patients often remain in the area for a week or longer, and staying in a traditional hotel room can feel restrictive and uncomfortable, particularly while wearing compression garments or using mobility aids. Suite-style hotels offer more space, better layouts, and improved comfort during recovery.
When selecting accommodations, lipedema patients are encouraged to check the availability of handicap-accessible suites. These rooms typically include walk-in showers, grab bars, and additional space, making showering and bathroom use significantly easier after surgery—especially while wearing compression garments on the extremities. We also recommend avoiding hotels without elevators whenever possible, or requesting a room closer to the entrance for convenience.
If a lipedema patient requires a wheelchair, most of the hotels we recommend provide wheelchair accessibility. In addition, wheelchairs are available at our office for use during a patient’s stay if needed. Lipedema patients with higher BMI or balance concerns may also benefit from using a walker during early recovery. Walkers are available at our office, and some patients choose to rent or purchase one for added stability.
Recommended Suite-Style Hotels Near the Lipedema MD Center
Based on proximity, accessibility, and suitability for recovery, we commonly recommend the following suite-style hotels for lipedema patients traveling to our practice.
Latitude Suites – Eatontown/Tinton Falls
Latitude Suites is a modern, suite-style hotel located just off Exit 105 of the Garden State Parkway, making it very convenient for lipedema patients traveling to and from the Lipedema MD Center. The property is part of the BW Premier Collection and was newly opened and renovated in 2024–2025, offering a contemporary layout well-suited for extended stays.
The hotel features spacious suites with full kitchens, elevator access, and on-site dining options. Many lipedema patients appreciate the additional space and functionality, particularly during the early post-operative period when mobility may be limited. Handicap-accessible suites are available and should be requested at the time of booking.

Homewood Suites by Hilton – Eatontown
Homewood Suites by Hilton in Eatontown is another popular option for lipedema patients. Designed specifically for extended stays, this all-suite hotel offers larger room layouts with kitchen amenities, making it easier to manage nutrition, hydration, and daily routines during recovery.
The property originally opened in 2016 and has undergone updates in recent years. It offers elevator access, handicap-accessible rooms, and a layout that many lipedema patients find comfortable for longer recovery stays.

Some of these hotels periodically offer preferred or discounted rates for Lipedema MD Center patients. When available, discount codes and booking instructions are listed below this section.
Post-Operative Care Options
Some lipedema patients travel alone, while others travel with companions who may not feel comfortable assisting with post-operative care. For this reason, we have established relationships with professional rehabilitation and recovery facilities experienced in caring for post-surgical patients.
Traveling by Air and Driving to the Lipedema MD Center
The Lipedema MD Center is located in Central New Jersey, in West Long Branch, New Jersey, very close to the Jersey Shore. This location allows convenient access from major airports while offering a calm, coastal environment that many lipedema patients find ideal for recovery.
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
Newark Liberty International Airport is the most commonly used airport for lipedema patients traveling to the Lipedema MD Center. It is approximately 35–40 miles away, with a typical drive time of 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic.
From Newark Liberty International Airport, lipedema patients typically take the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) South, exit at Exit 11, merge onto the Garden State Parkway South, and continue to Exit 105. The Lipedema MD Center is located just off Exit 105.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
Philadelphia International Airport is another option, particularly for lipedema patients traveling from the Midwest or Southern United States. It is approximately 85–90 miles away, with a typical drive time of 1.5–2 hours.
From Philadelphia International Airport, lipedema patients generally take I-95 North, connect to the New Jersey Turnpike North, merge onto the Garden State Parkway North, and exit at Exit 105.
Ground Transportation and Vehicle Recommendations
We strongly recommend that lipedema patients travel by car after surgery, either using a rental car or private transportation. Vehicles with higher seat height and ample interior space provide greater comfort and safety during recovery. Small or compact cars are not recommended, particularly for lipedema patients with higher BMI or limited mobility.
Given New Jersey’s variable weather and proximity to the ocean, SUVs or larger vehicles, ideally with all-wheel or four-wheel drive, are recommended.
Recovering Near the Jersey Shore
The Lipedema MD Center is located near the Jersey Shore, offering a calm and restorative coastal setting.
